Empowering You to Move Forward

Purpose
I aim to provide a space to reflect and look at things from a different perspective to help you achieve optimal health and wellbeing.

My goal is to support you in living your best life, and  journey towards holistic wellness and personal growth.

Life and Wellness Coaching

Drawing on my occupational therapy knowledge and experience I assist individuals who are feeling stuck or not sure how to move forward. Creating a space to reflect on your circumstances, set goals, develop skills, and creating a plan to enhance your wellness and live your best life.

Anxiety Management

I can support you to take a proactive approach to your mental health with Anxiety Management support, tailored to empower you with the skills to navigate challenging situations.

Registered ACC Provider Sensitive Claims Service

I support people by helping them to reclaim their daily lives and rebuild their confidence. My work involves understanding how trauma affects daily tasks and life roles and setting recovery goals. Working alongside you and your team, I can provide tailored support with a focus on meaningful occupation to ensure a comprehensive approach to recovery.

Professional Supervision

I provide a supportive and confidential space for reflection, challenge, and growth, helping health professionals move forward with confidence and clarity. Together, we’ll explore your professional goals, tackle challenges, and creatively use your strengths and resources to enable you grow professionally.

Climate Action

I work with individuals and organisations to enhance engagement in effective climate actions. Using a creative problem-solving and goal-setting approach, we'll develop a customized plan to maximize your impact on climate action.

How I Work
My practice is grounded in three core principles: valuing self-determination, applying the transtheoretical model of change, and integrating lessons from past experiences.

Drawing on an occupational therapy, trauma-informed, strengths-based approach, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and other strategies to support reflection, problem-solving, and goal setting.

By focusing on empowering individuals and advocating for their autonomy, I tailor interventions to meet people where they are, helping them navigate challenges in alignment with their values and circumstances.
About Me
Ko Wai Au
My family’s whakapapa spans Ngāti Maniapoto, Denmark, France, Wales, England, and Scotland. I grew up on dairy farms in the Waikato and now live in Mt Maunganui.

A strong desire for social justice led me to occupational therapy and work in mental health settings.  My master’s studies at Otago Polytechnic illuminated the crucial role of self-determination in well-being and revealed how it can be unintentionally undermined by health services. This insight has shaped my approach, guiding me to foster self-determination and advocate for empowerment through my practice.

Walking alongside people as they transition from feeling disempowered or stuck to experiencing a sense of control and capability is a great privilege. It’s rewarding to see people achieve their goals in ways that align with their values and fit their unique life contexts.

Wellness Coaching

Janie has a beautiful and kind personality which helps with making you feel relaxed and heard. She is culturally sensitive and illustrated a holistic approach on supporting recovery. Janie has a wonderful ability to listen and respond accordingly.

Wellness Coaching

…professional, practical and helpful. I’m very grateful…

Supervisee

Janie has been really great at empowering me to become more self-aware. Aware of my thoughts, feelings, actions and how I can move forward with solutions constructively and positively. I like how she allows me to be creative in the process of reflection.

Supervisee

Janie creates a safe and supportive supervision environment. She allows for questions that supports and encourages self-reflection and goal-development, through an occupational therapy lens. This has been beneficial to myself in terms of motivating me to continue to develop my e-portfolio and to allow myself to reflect on my current practice, identifying and bringing my practice back to an occupational therapy focus. As a supervisor, Janie is adaptive to different ways of learning, an example being the use of the Waka Model to visually map out my current journey as an occupational therapist, what I would like my journey to look like, identifying the tools I have and the barriers that may be preventing me from getting to where I want to be.

Supervisee

Very helpful, great advice, easy to contact, helped me to self-reflect, keeps me on track…I enjoyed learning about the Waka model.
